For years, pianist Mario Canonge has been producing a prolific body of high-quality work that has delighted listeners. This year, following the release of the second volume of the Quint'Up project with Michel Zenino, Mario returns with a trio format that he loves. He chooses the quasi-fusional trio he plays with Michel Alibo and Arnaud Dolmen. When he's not playing at Le Baiser Salé, Mario regularly plays at Le Comptoir in Fontenay-Sous-Bois, where this trio was recorded. Alibo's double bass playing takes the music in less frequent directions, emphasizing melody and harmony rather than the usual rhythmic, percussive playing. Mario revisits tracks from his albums, paying tribute to influences such as Bill Evans, while showcasing the talented expression of Alibo and Dolmen. In short, Mario Canonge's trio is a prime example of the heart of jazz and the Caribbean.
